Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, Kang Ki Young, and more showcase powerful chemistry at script reading for MBC’s 'Mary Kills People' remake

Actress Lee Bo Young is set to take on a bold new role as a doctor who assists with euthanasia in MBC’s upcoming suspense drama 'Mary Kills People.' 

The network revealed photos from the drama’s script reading session, featuring cast members Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, Kang Ki Young, and Baek Hyun Jin.

'Mary Kills People' explores the heavy and thought-provoking subject of assisted death. The story centers around a doctor who helps terminally ill patients end their suffering and a detective determined to uncover the truth behind these cases.

At the script reading, the cast delivered a gripping preview of the emotional intensity and complexity viewers can expect. Lee Bo Young plays Woo So Jung, an emergency medicine doctor driven by her strong convictions. She portrays the character’s inner turmoil with nuance, capturing the emotional conflict between her desire to help and the ethical boundaries she must confront.

Lee Min Ki takes on the role of Jo Hyun Woo, a terminal cancer patient nearing the end of his life. With a calm and composed demeanor, he delicately portrays a man caught in the painful dilemma between life and death.

Kang Ki Young plays Choi Dae Hyun, a former plastic surgeon who lost his medical license. Now working alongside So Jung, he helps facilitate assisted deaths. He lightens the intense atmosphere with his sharp wit and emerges as a key mood-maker within the story.

Additional cast members include Baek Hyun Jin as businessman Goo Gwang Chul, Kwon Hae Hyo as Father Yang, the head of a free clinic, Kim Tae Woo as police commissioner Ahn Tae Sung, and Seo Young Hee as lawyer Ryu Yi Soo, each adding depth to the drama’s dynamic ensemble.

“The cast’s chemistry and acting synergy truly brought the scene to life,” a production team member said. “'Mary Kills People' will offer viewers a deep and nuanced perspective on life and death. Please look forward to it.”

'Mary Kills People' will premiere on August 1 at 10 p.m., following the conclusion of 'Oh My Ghost Clients.'
